Complexities Behind Practicing in “Paradise”
This session will start with a brief cultural background on the Hawaiian Islands for context and through examples of built work, unpack the experience of being an Asian woman practicing landscape architecture in this male-dominated industry. Major lessons include finding agency, committing to cultural sensitivity, and the under-rated importance of interpersonal skills such as effective communication and active listening.
